ATTORNEY GENERAL's PASSPORT PROGRAM

Identity theft has become the top reported form of theft in the United States.

As part of the Ohio Attorney General's duty to assist victims of crime, Jim Petro has brought together a coalition of agencies with the special mission of helping identity theft victims through a unique program called  The Identity Theft Verification Program.

Under the PASSPORT program, victims reporting identity theft to local authorities will be given step-by-step information about how to alert creditors to fraudulent activity in their names, and simple, fill-in-the-blank affidavits to send to credit bureaus and creditors.

The cornerstone of PASSPORT, however, is that victims will be given a card they can show to creditors and law enforsement personnel establishing conclusive proof that they have been the victim of a crime.

For additional information about this program, visit Jim Petro's web-site at www.ag.state.oh.us  or call them at 1-888-MY-ID-4-ME (1-888-694-3463.
